How I Got a Free Playstation
A free playstation?… ‘I’ll see what I can do’
How easy is it to get free stuff these days? This question keeps cropping up from friends and family who know me well for being an ‘I’ll see what I can do…’ sort of person.
Getting hold of shareware, freeware and countless samples these days is not a problem. With the invention of this new thangled thing called the interweb, free stuff like that is not a problem.
When my young nephew came to me and asked if I could get him a free playstation I couldn’t resist the challenge. Knowing full well this would be a virtually impossible task I didn’t promise his free playstation would be here any time soon.
In my eagerness I got straight on to Google and typed in ‘free playstation’, I like to keep it simple and straight to the point!
First site that caught my eye was freeplaystation.net …. Again straight to the point!
The site was simple and straight to the point, ‘3 steps to getting your hands on a free playstation’, this looks a bit too easy I thought to myself. Scrolling down to find the ‘all you have to do is sign up with your credit card details’ I was surprised to find nothing of the kind, just an information video from no less than BBC’s Newsnight program about getting free stuff.
The video explained how advertising companies are enticing people to take notice of their advertised products by giving away highly desirable items such as the iPod, iPhone and of course the Sony Playstation 3.
The catch? Well…. Where money is involved there isn’t one. Don’t think that they are giving away a playstation for free just for looking at an advert. The way this offer works is by you signing up, taking up a free trail and then getting your friends and family to do the same.
The site giving away the free stuff gets paid by the companies that they are showing ads for, providing that the user signs up for a free trial or at most spends £5 – £10 on an offer. The site then passes some of that money back to you as a free gift for referring your friends and family.
So basically this is a form of advertising, companies set aside a certain amount of cash to pay the advertiser just to get interest in their product. Fortunately for us some of that money gets passed down to us for the part we play i.e. telling our friends and family about the free playstation site.
Luckily for me, friends and family were quick to help out knowing the playstation was for little Billy, and all signed up for a 2 week trail at LoveFilm.com.
One month after signing up, the free play station arrived. My best ‘I’ll see what I can do’ moment yet!
Why Advertisers Are Giving Away Free Stuff
You may have come across web sites that advertise free items such as iPods, iPhones and flat screen TV’s. Like myself you’ve probably ignored these sites and not given them a second thought.
The internet is open to anyone who wants to use it; this inevitably leads to scams and illegal activity widespread throughout. We hear stories of people being ripped off all the time, so being cautious when it comes to the internet is second nature to most of us.
I recently discovered a documentary about the free iPod giveaway on BBC’s ‘Newsnight’ program. I was interested to find out that they thought the free iPod web sites were not a scam but a new type of advertising.
This got me interested, so I thought I’d do a bit of investigating for myself.
Searching internet forums, I found plenty of evidence that people were getting their iPods. One forum in particular exceem.co.uk revealed much enthusiasm towards many of the free giveaway sites.
After much research I came up with a list of ‘free giveaway’ sites recommended by the forum users.
One such site ‘freebiejeebies.co.uk’ seemed to be very open with how they were able to give away these highly sought after items. This gave me confidence; most of the web site scam sites I’ve encountered don’t even tell you how you can take advantage of the amazing offer until you’ve parted with your hard earned cash.
The way these sites work now makes perfect sense, because of the social networking revolution that has become so wide spread on the internet, word of mouth has gone to a new level. With sites such as facebook and twitter people are not only talking to a small group of local friends or work colleagues, they are socializing with people all over the world.
By giving people something to tell their friends about which benefits all, word quickly spreads about something you are promoting. Let’s face it, if you where employing a professional advertising company to promote your product you would expect to pay them. So offering free gifts to the general public to spread the word about a special offer is the advertiser’s way of paying for advertising.
The good news for us is that this form of advertising works. So If you fancy earning a free gift for telling your friends about a site, do some research, find a recommended ‘free gift’ web site and see if you can earn something you’ve always wanted.
I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t try it out for myself, so I did. I set my sites on something a bit more extravagant than an iPod. Being my son’s birthday in one month I thought I’d try for a Playstation 3 from freeplaystation. A Playstation in a month was being a bit optimistic, but I did get my Playstation even though it was six weeks late for my son’s birthday!
My conclusion to the ‘free gift’ phenomenon is that although you’re not getting a free gift handed to you on a plate, ‘free’ in the terms of ‘no money’ paid is certainly true. In essence you’re being paid for your services.
Watch Free TV on PC for Quality Entertainment
It seems like the cost of cable or satellite TV is going up all the time. In the United States, the recent move to all digital TV means that you may not have access to TV at all without one of these expensive options. There is another option to choose from, watching free TV on PCs is an excellent solution to this costly problem.
There are currently several different programs on the internet that allow you to watch TV on PC free. These programs typically have a low, one time, set-up fee that will grant you free access to many of your favorite television channels. This is an obvious advantage to paying the often exorbitant fees that cable and satellite TV companies may charge. You will be able to watch news, sports, children’s programs and more on your computer by using one of these programs.
Now, a lot of people do not want to spend their TV time stuck in front of a small computer monitor. This is another easy problem to fix when watching free TV on PC. There are inexpensive cables that can be used to hook up your television directly to your TV. This will allow you to watch TV on PC free while still enjoying your large TV.
Sky TV is an excellent example of these programs. They have over 2000 world wide channels available for viewing. Watch the BBC news, or a baseball game from Japan, whatever you like is available on Sky TV or any computer TV program.
Using your computer, a simple program and some additional cables, it is possible to save money while still enjoying all of the quality programs you enjoy. Free TV on PC is quickly becoming the wave of the future for everyone interested in high quality television programming without spending a lot of money. Watch TV on PC free for your entertainment pleasure.
